Parkinson’s disease is a brain disorder that affects how we control movement. In a healthy brain, special nerve cells produce a chemical called dopamine, which helps movements stay smooth and coordinated. In Parkinson’s, these cells gradually stop working and die, so dopamine levels drop. As a result, people develop symptoms such as shaking, stiffness, and balance problems, and the disease also affects sleep, mood, and cognitive function. Early recognition is important, because treatments and therapies can then support daily life more effectively.
FibrilPaint is our patented technology for detecting, visualising, and monitoring protein clumps called amyloid fibrils, which are linked to diseases such as Parkinson’s. The exact role and origin of these fibrils in disease is not yet fully clear, but they grow larger and become more common as the disease progresses. Research shows that these fibrils are not only present in the brain; they also appear in other tissues, including the blood. With FibrilPaint, we detect these fibrils in a simple blood sample, which makes disease detection and monitoring easier and more comfortable for patients.
